San Marcos De Neve
The settlement of the 1st town of San Marcos was called San Marcos De Neve.  It was located on the banks of the river.  It looked like the perfect place.  It had water and wildlife.  Due to the many floods the residents had to abandon the site for several years.

Settling Near the San Marcos River
When the new settlers came to the Texas Hill County from their homes far away, they found a lot of wildlife to help feed their families.  They settled near rivers and springs so there were plenty of things to hunt.  This area was at the base of the sparkling springs, which is now call the San Marcos River, which was one of the areas they settled under the direction of General Edward Burleson.
